Jim Piersall A2301 Model
, baseball glove. It has one
excellent
feature...which is it's pocket. It has many "catches" left in this glove. This glove has several flaws, however; the biggest being the "lacing at the top of the glove holding all the fingers together is not leather, like it should be, but instead is a brown shoestring. (I give an A+ to the ingenious person who, in the absence of having leather available, used a shoestring. (The leather in the eyelets around the hand looks good.) But there are a couple of other areas on the outside of the glove which needs leather lacing (please see photo # 11 and 12 above). The cloth Wilson patch on the wrist strap is almost missing completely, and inside the glove on the pinkie finger are the initials
"EH"
. And on the outside of the pinkie finger in letters that are almost faded out is the name
"Herrera"
, following the circle which says
"Made in USA"
. But that
is
fantastic
. Once someone slides their thumb all the way inside, it feels like they can catch anything. A super pocket!
Jimmy Piersall was a talent. Like him or not, (usually it was love him or hate him), it was extremely difficult to be "neutral" when it came to Jimmy Piersall. The great Ted Williams called Piersall the best defensive center fielder he had ever seen. By far, Jimmy Piersall was the most interesting ballplayer I have ever read about...perhaps because Jimmy battled a bipolar disorder all his 17 season career. Most of his career was with the Boston Red Sox, but he also played for Cleveland, Washington, the New York Mets, and the Los Angeles Angels. With all his mental disorders Piersall had to overcome, he still was a
two time All-Star
,
won two Gold Glove Awards
, and enjoyed being inducted into the
Boston Red Sox Hall-of-Fame
.
I wish I could have seen Piersall play as an adult; I would have had a much bigger appreciation for him. As it was, I only got to see Piersall play as a kid.
My only regret about this glove is not the need for the leather lacing; for that is an easy fix. My biggest regret is that Jimmy Piersall's name is almost rubbed off this glove because of its use. That is why I strongly encourage the viewer to use the enlargement feature of EBAY's on every photo I have included above. Without the enlargement feature, one can barely see Piersall's name, if at all. But one can see it with the enlargement feature. It's there, I promise you, it's there!
Thank you for viewing my EBAY-auction item. (Please note: I do
not
ship internationally.) God bless.
